Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

Geezus man, have you tried searching some of this stuff? Right now you have a SUBDOMAIN, you want to have a TOP LEVEL DOMAIN like the one here. And just because you are hosted the same way doesn't mean you get the same exposure. The only thing for you to do right now is to make sure your forum is in working order and ready for members to post in. Then, just promote it like crazy. Then you can work on getting a TLD.

Forumpromotion is using hawkhost, a paid hosting service. And this forum has its own domain??? lawl it has a ton of members because it has been here for a while now and its top of its niche, your forum seems to be about star wars?? you should look at your forums style, thats the thing that would put me off the most as a potential forum member. The images in the forums description look awful and i have to highlight the text to even be able to read it. A domain name isnt the MOST important thing, but it costs a few $$ so why not? it will make your forum more easily accessible and more professional. unless your insanely poor and cant even afford $3 for a .info, but yeah i would concentrate on your forums style the most 😉

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

I have to agree with shady here. Seriously man, if you can't spare a few dollars for a domain then why are you complaining about it? And don't complain about no time either, because that's your problem.

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

Didn't really like the images in the forum categories area.

Number 3: Why is there so many groups?!?!?! I count NINE groups. Half of which aren't necessary at all! A forum your size should have three, including staff and registered users.

There's 15 now :/

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

Dear lord! This forum will be getting nowhere fast unless those get narrowed down.

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

People cant even register, i tried and got this message:

General Error

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

Hahaha, there's your problem mate 😉

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

My favorite part is that there's still the demo forum there 😛

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

I know right!

It's that demo forum that sold it to me. Just because of that I think I might sign up 😉

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

Come on guys, you really need to find something better to do that making fun of this guy. He is trying to learn and is slowly understanding. We have all been new at foruming once. Be constructive and helpful or go somewhere else.

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

The more we try and help him, the less he learns. Maybe if we don't teach him at all he'll get somewhere?

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

I agree with Tindris. We were all new once. Try a be helpful and point him in the right direction rather then make fun of him. Think how you would feel if you were new to forums and people are making fun of you and your forum. Making fun of people just because they are new and don't know as much as you will not help anyone. By helping him and telling him why he should do something will help him learn and he will understand why doing it will help his forum. If you let him get on with it on his own he will learn nothing as he will just give up as no one is helping him and he forum wouldn't be as successful as it could be.

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

I did make a useful post, i told him what he must concentrate on at this moment in time and also pointed out that you cannot register because of an sql error.

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

*puts on helpful cap* Let's go to work!

I wasn't actually referring to you Shady 🙂

That sounds good Darth 🙂

Jedi Penguin:

Using the web address you are using now is actually you using a subdomain hosting site to get a subdomain. If you register directly at www.co.cc you can get yoursitename.co.cc and get rid of the jchosting part. Obviously a site with a TLD looks more professional but for now a subdomain that shortens your site address will help you. Try using co.cc or www.dot.tk

Yeah but people having giving this guy advice for months street and he has taking any of it. All he still does is whine and complain about how no one is posting... Everyone here has told him everything from using FP cash to get posts, and buying a paid domain name, etc Yet hes done none of that.<br /><br />-- 30 Apr 2011, 15:41 --<br /><br />

One spam member?

More like about 100!

But anyway, how did you get that many members?

I can't even get the spammers! 🙁

My forum is being enhanced greatly, yet nobody is usually coming.

I can't get my own domain right of way.

I know the domain sounds a bit silly, but I had tried to make it a Google site originally.

Don't know how to change it without starting over.

Besides, the more I post here, the more FP cash I get.

Also, about the spammers in your forum, other people have told me that users will not be happy that a forum doesn't appear to be trying that much to stop profile spam.

Just saying.

I wish we could stop the fighting.

If the mods see this, they'll probably close the thread and ban us both.

My new goal is 10 users on my forum.

Then 50.

Then 100.

Then 200.

Then 500.

Then 1000.

etc

How do I get more people in my forum?

-- 29 Apr 2011, 20:40 --

It appears that the Forum Promotion forum has the same host as mine, yet he has a ton of members and nobody is saying Fowler should have his own domain.

Though he has some features that they don't, which I'm confused on.

Anyway, I'm going to let people use ads once I can get them configured.

I'm trying make the forum more professional.

I will say this ONE LAST TIME! GO TO THE FORUM EXCHANGE ON THIS SITE, BUY POSTS WITH YOUR FP AND YOU WILL GET POSTS AND MEMBERS. ALSO BUY A PIAD DOMAIN NAME AS WELL!!!

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

I wasn't aware of the registration thing. That wasn't always there. Could just be a silly glitch that happens every once in a while.

All forums usually have that at some time or other. Even the very top ones.

If I wanted to really promote my forum, I could hire those annoying seo guys to use bots to make links to my forum in lotsa forums, including yours. But I'm a nice guy and don't do that. Instead I came here thinking I could promote my forum. Instead I got so put down. Maybe I just have a knack for getting on other people's nerves on forums.

I specifically recall Darth Maul saying that my forum would be better if I had more categories. Now I have too many categories apparently!

If I could get enough members, I could justify buying the domain. I'm not going to go off buying domains, I can't be sure I'm buying one that'll be noticed anyway as I've never bought them before and don't want to get trapped with the hidden fees that so often accompany these things, or the hidden things like that they can secretly control my site and mess with it and I didn't know that but they had it in .009 font and so can legally get away with it. Anyway, I need more members. You should be able to register.

Someone did on the 18th of April or there abouts so I know it has to be working somehow.

Also, use my OLD forum. That new one I found isn't going to cut it as, though I can fiddle with the PHP, I can get to even less templates. I tried my best but cannot create my own background as of yet and am not going to go buying a domain just to please everyone just yet.

Also, most of the FP stuff requires in the thousands and I only have in the 50's for cash.

Can't do much yet, now can I?

I can't get a blinking logo or whatever.

I thought the main logo was ok.

I could alter it to make it show my domain logo if it'll really make you guys happy (if such a thing is even possible 🙁 .)

I'll deal with the registration issue myself, though it may have just been a one time thing.

The so called other forum I suggested using I stopped using pretty much. I think I changed the domain name on that one, so the addresses might not be matching up or something. I'm almost certain you can register on my regular one.

As for the Demo Category, I thought that was a bit odd. Just forgot to make it hidden.

It's where I test things, etc.

However, if it really bothers you guys THAT much, you can always buy me a domain.

And after all the effort I spent on it yesterday too.... :shake:

You should be able to register.

Glad someone tried to register! :cheer:

I had hoped to get about 1,000,000 members and beat Jedi Council Forums.

Maybe not for a year or two, but eventually.....

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

You should make a general star wars forum if you plan on beating them, a character-specific star wars forum won't get far.
