Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

Having a large amount of categories with not many posts in each makes your forum look inactive.

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

I see the problem. That appears to be there only for GUESTS.

I am currently trying to figure out how to fix that glitch.

Once that's gone, it will look a whole lot nicer I think.

-- 15 May 2011, 16:14 --

I mean the squashed thing and the images covering some text.

It should be gone once I fix the default style.

-- 15 May 2011, 16:18 --

Better now?

I fixed it.

I still don't know where it's setting the default style for guests at but I do know what style it is setting and was able to alter it to mine.

However, I think my forum allows users to choose from different styles.<br /><br />-- 15 May 2011, 19:04 --<br /><br />What's a feed? I just enabled those for one forum.

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

I am currently trying to change address. Can't rush it any faster. Have already made two PMs and one post to domain host to have it changed, though I read that it takes about 30 minutes to change it anyway.

As for the groups, I've lessened the visible ones and have made a few of the forums not visible to regular members.

I think I fixed the guest logo problem.

As for the domain name, I'd like to eventually buy one with FP cash.

Also, I don't know what Fowler means by "bumping".

I have asked the guy who setup all the predefined stuff on the site how to edit the PHP directory. He said it's possible but I'm not quite sure how to do it yet.

I've searched and searched and searched and searched in Admin control panel. (Had to include all of those "searched"s to show that I am indeed doing something about what you tell me) I did find something that might be able to change Look and Feel or something for language packs but not anything, that I can find so far, that can change forum address.

This forum has given me a wonderful idea. I'm going to create a new custom title called "Forum Sponsor". However, I won't really need any money support till I actually start domain shopping or whatever.

Yes I'm a Noob! If you haven't figured that out by now, I'm saying it flat out. However, to say that you want me to leave, well, that's just plain rude!!!

I only made another topic as I thought that was what "bumping" meant and honestly thought it was legal! I had read the rules but did reread them after Fowler locked the thread just to see if I had read them, couldn't recall if I had, and to make sure I wasn't missing something the last time I read them if I had read them.

I am going to register a bunch of guys and post a lot more on my forum.

I have to go away for a bit and cool down.

Darth Maul's comment:

"Honestly man, most people here think you're a noob and want you gone."

(in another thread), has set me on edge    and I don't want to blow up and get banned, especially with Fowler already upset with me because I misunderstood what he meant by "bumping". Still don't quite understand, but will be staying here and maybe posting somewhat in others threads on general stuff to get a higher post count so people won't think I'm a noob, etc, anymore.

All of this is likely because I'm very new and also pretty new to FP. And honestly, I have tried some of what you said, am trying to do more of what you said right now, and also don't think it a good idea to go buying the domain name yet.

I have tried signature ads already and didn't get anyone new.

The address, what's probably keeping a lot of people away, is being dealt with to the best of my ability.

I have a forum that has its domain owned by messageforums.net.

I have to go through them to change the address.

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

Just to let you know mate, i am getting that error whilst trying to sign up again. You are not getting any members because you cannot sign up.

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

After looking threw your site. I see vary little work you have done. People will join if you put in the time and effort. Making your forum look unique and around your niche. Its star wars have some lightsabers something of the sort.

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

I do on topic icons.

I can change icons and will most certainly do so.

As for effort, I'd been in college near finals week kinda when I developed the forum. I'm out now and can work on it quite a bit more.

You should be able to get in.

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

Wait a minute....you do realize that you have to have both letters AND numbers in your password? If not, that might be why.

Am registering now to see if I come across the problem.

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

yes i used both in my password. I always do, its an error from the actual forum software phpbb.

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

I don't think Cz.cc domains are reliable my site was down for 2 days and I had to switch because I couldn't take it any longer.

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

I wish you the best with the forum.Rember all forums are hard to get of the ground.Mine only open a month ago and i may have 64 members but only a handful posts on there. It takes time to get your forum out there to the world.I suggest using all the forums that are listed here to promote your forum.Offer post exchange and affiliate exchanges with people and last but not least the only fault i can see is some of your images are way to big and the banner is way to big you have a nice forum there how about re-sizing some of them over sized images

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

Ok. Will do. Thought the image might be too big.

Had been trying to get image to fit nicer so it would take up entire top right side of page but it still leaves about half an inch or so, no matter how wide I make it.

I tried making it taller for the same reason but all it did was extend the image down.

I sometimes expriment with styles and don't lock the forum when I do so it's possible some of the members here may have gone and looked at it when I had set it for incompatible styles, which makes the page a mess of links and stuff if I do. Though I always fix it very quickly.

How's this forum working out for you?

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

Haven't gotten new members in a while.<br /><br />-- 18 May 2011, 21:28 --<br /><br />Can you think of any new custom profile features I can add?

Am currently trying to get MessageForums.com to add profile messages like many other forums have. Even sent them the code. But they are really busy and I still haven't gotten a reply if they will implement it or not. At least I don't think I have gotten a reply. Have not checked the support forums there lately to see if I had gotten response there, only checked PMs. Anyway, I can add text fields, a text area I think, a boolean yes/no thing, a number thing, usually used for rating but could be use be used for something else I'm not thinking of. Can also have a drop down box or something like that.

I might have found a way to edit something in the appearance of the forums, but it may not be anything, or, likely, it will be only language specific.

Unless even that was the old forum that I had.

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

Hello. I'm going to work on forum now again.

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

I think my biggest problem is that I don't have enough search engine hits and that people have never heard of me before (but even the big forums started out that way too so why isn't it working for me? ) .

Also, maybe I don't have enough features to keep people around.

I can only add so many. I'm currently working on getting them to add profile comments. I did find that I can customize all the buttons' images, but it seems that the real reason I'm struggling is because of lack of promotion or something along the lines of that.

So how do I deal with it?

-- 20 May 2011, 21:15 --

My latest SEO trick of putting my signature with the site name and link, as well as the name and link of another site, in a forum that I had over 1100 posts in it and told it to have signature in every one, don't worry, I'm doing it legally and there's no harm and I am an active contributor to that forum, but anyway, not many more hits on Google.

Why are the 1000+ ones that should be showing up not showing up?

-- 20 May 2011, 23:51 --

Is there a forum here where we can talk about anything...i.e. the news, Communist takeover of the government plots, the Tea Party, sports, forums in general, etc?

-- 21 May 2011, 00:03 --

So what would you recommend I do to help my forum?

I'm currently adding a ton of smiles. Could that actually work against me if I have 50+ smiles?

-- 21 May 2011, 14:57 --

What about forum rules? Should I let people just post smiles and post lots of slang.

i.e. ("sup");

Letz go party 2day.

etc?

Will that make my forum look bad if I allow that?

Is my new "Report!" icon funny?

Icon%201.gif

It says "I find your post disturbing!!!".

Hmmmm...it seems that though the address is the new domain, it still gets referenced somewhat by old site address.

-- 21 May 2011, 19:04 --

I wonder if now I can get a new post and bump again.

I still haven't gotten many replies here or any new members.<br /><br />-- 21 May 2011, 19:05 --<br /><br />Why is my clock an hour behind?
