There are now Programs like Start8 ( http://www.stardock.com/products/start8/ ) by Stardock which make Windows 8 boot into the classic Windows desktop found in Windows 7 and below instead of the Modern Touchscreen interface, and start8 also brings the Startmenu button back to Windows 8. Start8 also seems to have more features and costumizability then the regular Windows 7 startbutton.

Linux.

That is all.
Don't forget BSD and illumos, buddy.

But yeah, Windows 8 is the worst. 7 was good, but 8? THE THIRD COMING [of WinME]!

I may actually have to try this...
I have the consumer preview installed on another computer.

I found a program called Pokki ( https://www.pokki.com/ ) which adds a startmenu on to Windows 8 classic desktop. Pokki ia currently free.

It also has a App store, notifications, file search engine and pinned favourite apps according to Pokki website,

I am still not sure on what I want to do about this whole either update to 8 or just stay at 7. I mean I know about the discount from switching to 8 from 7, but I am not amused by the new metro look, just not me. I might install it on a virtual machine and see what I am thinking about it.

I am currently using a clean install of Windows 8 32bit on a old HP desktop with 1GB of RAM, 1.86 GHz dual core CPU, and onboard video, 320GB hard drive and W8 works pretty well considering my PC is 5+ years old.

I like the new file cut, copy and paste user interface in Windows 8.

The Modern Touchscreen interface is kind of cool because I can change the background, and colors, and install Apps/widget tiles to it to easily launch by clicking on a tile.

There is a desktop mode in Windows 8 which is similar to Windows 7, but without the startmenu.

I notice in Windows 8, Firefox 16, IE 10, and Google Chrome seems to run better, and freeze less then 7 for me.

Windows 7 is actually amazing and I do plan on buying it in the next few days. It has great features and I love the new updated design.

I don't like windows 8 because of it's metro UI used for it's desktops. Metro is designed for tablets not desktops. It take me longer to do stuff. That is the only negative so far

The Start Screen/Metro UI is just an App launcher which launches full screen apps, and launch programs like Google Chrome, Firefox, MS Word, etc in the classic desktop found in older versions of Windows like Vista, and 7, but without a Startmenu, but you can get the Start button back with third party software like Start8, Pokki, or Classic Shell if you feel you need a start menu.

After looking into I'd suggest getting a Win 8 Ready computer but using Windows 7 and use the cheap Windows 8 upgrade once the software is more stable.

I think most computers which came with Windows 7 work with Windows 8, and it may work with most Vista and some newer XP computers as well.

I installed Windows 8 on a desktop computer which used Windows Vista, and all my hardware and software I use on the PC work on 8, and 8 has been more stable and fast then Windows Vista on my computer.

I'm not sure many retail stores like Wal-Mart, Bestbuy, and Radio Shack still have Windows 7 PC, or the Windows 7 disc for sale.

I think if you plan on upgrading to Windows 8, it is better just to buy a Windows 8 computer or laptop since upgrading operating system like from 7 to 8 is not as good as a clean install, and doing a clean install by deleting 7 to upgrade to 8, and reinstalling all your programs, backing up files, copying files back to the pc, and changing settings can take many hours or days to complete.

You're welcome.

I recently found a useful video on YouTube which explains most of the Windows navigation very easily in 4 minutes, and also teaches some short cut keys like Windows Key+F which launches the file and program search engine, Windows Key+D for launching the desktop, and ALT-F4 for quickly closing programs, and Shutting Windows when in the Desktop.

Should I get a new computer now with Win7 or wait a few months when they start introducing Win8 into pc's?

what say you 😀

Get one now with Windows 7 because Windows 8 is not going to be a good OS unless your getting a touch screen computer. (Example: HP Touchsmart)
It is also only good if you have a Touch Screen Tablet, i have a tablet but i might be keeping android on it for a few years.
