I think windows 7 is just fine, windows 8 is not bad, it does boot up and shutdown quicker on my laptop, but i have not really seen any new features that really amaze me.
Its basically windows 7 with the new metro look for the start menu
its cool and all but not a must have at the moment
I like the faster boot and shutdown times as well on my Desktop computer which uses a non-SSD hard drive.
Windows 8 also seem to use less RAM and CPU usage percentage then Windows 7, so programs open faster on a computer.
The Windows 8 Marketplace/App market store is the main worthwhile feature if you use a lot of apps like Evernote, Skype, Netflix, etc, or you are an App developer since Windows 8 Apps is one of the fastest growing App stores like Android when it was first release its App store a few years a go.
Plus, Microsoft only takes 20% of your App revenue compared to 30% of your revenue like Apple, and Android.
There are fewer also apps in the marketplace, so it is easier to get notice in the top apps category.
You can sell your paid apps for a higher price because there are not as many 0.99 cent apps to compete with like Apple, and Android Apps.
