weed/marijuana and your views?

It's all politics, that's why. There's too much politics in it. Tobacco wasn't originally considered bad for you when it first hit the market. It was considered the "cool" thing. So many people have been addicted to tobacco it's not something the government can just take away. It's just something they can tax the hell out of. Marijuana to my recollection has never been "legal" in the U.S.
Wrong. The first law relating to marijuana in the US forced farmers to grow more of it. Things like marijuana, opium, etc were all legal until the 20's-30's, only reason marijuana is illegal is you need tax stamps for it that aren't given to anyone, so you actually can also be convicted for 'tax evasion' for getting caught with weed. Reason they were made illegal was racism. Opium against the chinese, marijuana against mexicans/blacks.

That was only the first part of weed becoming illegal.(The stamps) Later many more laws were created limiting more and more. However it was indeed made illegal due to politics and racism.

@anyone else wanting to know the history of weed and the law,you should watch the movie grass.

Or The Union. And I made a slight mistake, Opium was made illegal in 1905, close to marijuana but not 20s. And yeah marijuana has other laws but they all started from the tax stamps, they still exist in most states.

There is also the fact that legalizing hemp would destroy the timber industry.

Indeed it would.
Theres a conspiracy that weed was only illegalised to save the timber industry as a person from a big woodcutting company complained.

It wouldn't surprise me. The move to ban marijuana started in the 1920s when the "new Republicans" first gained power. Since the 1920s, Republicans have invariably done the bidding of corporations with the partial exception of the Eisenhower era (before that, they were more or less to the left of the Democrats). Many of the Eisenhower-era Republicans were to the left of today's Democratic party.

No it was made illegal due to hatred toward the mexicans. they seen they smoked it and enjoyed so they thought make it illegal and they will leave...

Watch the movie grass it is really worth the watch.

Two things are infinite in the United States: corporate greed and hatred for minorities. 🙂 Okay, I lied. Those aren't the only two things, but I would have to write a book to cover all the things.

No man you gotta think about the drug companies. No one would buy their dangerous sheet if marijuana was legal. Who cares if grandma died from her untested medication, gotta be a capitalist.

No socialist FDA for us. It is true that corporations lie and cheat a lot even with the light restrictions we have on them now, but if we completely remove those restrictions and change to a virtually unregulated free market, the corporations will tell the truth for sure. I mean, corporations aren't evil, right?

1 book??I think you could probably make 3 lol....

If I would watch a movie about weed it would be one from Cheech & Chong.
And the legal or illegal discussion makes me happy I live in a very tolerant country. What I do agree on is the fact that making it "Legal" won't change that much although certain people seem to think that a lot of criminal issues would be solved by it...not buying that one for a second.

So I'm guessing you also think that prohibition had nothing to do with the giant increase of the mob's power in the 20s until alcohol was legal again? Either haven't read the thread or you're making money of the black market man :great:.

Does the term it's a buyers market mean anything to you?

And what black market? It's all a gray or grey area

Maybe where you live, not in the states. You think the cartels are a grey area? lol Trust me if tobacco was illegal people would continue buying it, just from dangerous drug dealers like it is with marijuana. Pot smokers don't want to deal with criminals but do and give them cash because its illegal. You could argue that corporations are just as bad if not worse but they still aren't considered criminals by most.

Sorry for the late reply I was busy with other stuff, well you got me there where I live things are a bit more relaxed concerning these matters.

Not that I'm a pothead or anything like that.

I more or less agree keeping in mind that opium comes from a natural plant as well. I'm still waiting for someone to give me a good reason why pot is illegal and alcohol is legal. Alcohol is 10 times more damaging to you than pot. Now admittedly, I am a recovering addict, but I still believe that the use of any drug should be an individual's choice, not the governments.

There's also a misconception that only people who are actually doing these drugs support making them legal. I think that having never touched any of them (I've never even had alcohol), I disprove that theory.
