What is the best forum host?

Out of the forum hosts I've used before, I think my current one, ZetaBoards, is the best. And my favorite. There are, in fact, people using IF boards that are switching to ZB.

It is a lot like vBulletin and I do mean a lot like it! At one time it was a reverse engineered clone of vBulletin and they were ordered to take out any and all vBulletin coding. Yet, it still remains one of the more impressive free forum softwares available - in my opinion.

It's like the poor man's vBulletin, when you want the best but can't afford it - then get the next best thing (they even have a vBulletin skin available.)

I prefer IPBFree only because IPB is my favorite forum software. I know theres other IPB hosts, but I found IPBFree first and never really looked into any others...

Next to that, I'd have to say Freeforums.org would be the best.

I like Zetaboards. It has a good amount of features and looks rather professional in comparison to some other free forum hosts. The main problem with it is the lack of pre-made skins available and I don't have the time to work out the CSS for it (at least, not at the moment.) 😛

I've used http://www.forumotion.com for quite some time now, theres a huge support center for them which is being updated every minute almost.

I've used both IPbfree and setbb and I think both of these are solid hosts. I would have to say of the two that setbb is the best free host for phpbb 2/3 and that its support team is excellent.

It really depends on what you are looking for and how advanced a programmer you are. For me the "best" forum host is a VPS if I'm feeling adventurous or reseller if I want something safe that will "just work" without me having to put in much effort.

It’s crazy to look back and see all of the free forum hosts that no longer exist. You have to give props to hosts like Jcink and ProBoards for being survivors all this time.

Man look at that list! I do miss Zetaboards, it was one of my top favorite free forum hosts. I'm happy that imo the best free forum host, Jcink is still around. It's one of the only free forum hosts that allows you to download a database backup of your forum, so if you ever wanted to switch to self hosting you can.
