Windows 10

Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and 8.1.1 users have one year to get it for free. After the year is up you must pay for it if you need a copy. If you get it for free now it's yours forever. You don't have to buy it after a year if you get it now.

It is free to download for thoses who currently have Windows 7 or 8 (or 8.1) during the first year. So if you want Windows 10 without paying for it you upgrade now. If you don't upgrade you will have to pay the full price ($120) after.

So yes it is free forever if you upgraded already. One thing to let you know though. Windows 10 is tied to your motherboard (I found this through Reddit) so if you switch to a new PC you will have to buy Windows 10. Only thoses who build custom pc's (such as myself) will really be the only ones to worry about the OS being tied to the motherboard though. 😛
Thank you for the explanation! I guess that means I need to make sure I use this laptop long enough so I won't regret it when I change my laptop later.

Not a huge fan of the newer Windows updates, so I'm going to be abstaining from upgrading to Windows 10. I'm perfectly happy with my Windows 7, so I'll just keep this until I'm forced to upgrade by getting a new computer. :C
So far I'm enjoying it, to be honest. Switching back to Firefox solves the problem with browser and lately I don't see any errors. I wonder if the errors are due to the browser. If you haven't tried it, I'd suggest it before deciding not to upgrade it. After all, it's free as stated above. 😀

Not interested in Windows 10 until a few months from now. I find it always best to wait to update and see what is compatible with it and what's not.

I have until next July 29th so I think I'm going to wait. I'm good with Win 8 at the moment.

Yes, I can see Window '10' in the future.
I'm a bit confused. I thought this free download is free forever?

You should be able to take your key with you if you change mobos? Boy I hope so because if not my version is $199 if I had to buy it. Won't know til I try it I guess.

If you bought a Windows 10 copy (disc and key with it) you can just reapply the key on a new PC if you scrapped the old one. Usually though with the previous OS (windows 7 and 8) you were limited to use a key a certain amount of times. So when you hit that limit but had to reinstall the OS, etc. You could usually contact Microsoft about the issue to reactiviate the key.

So if you bought a actual copy of Windows 10 don't worry about it. If you can't reuse the key again on a new PC after using it on the previous one due to the tied mobo just contact Microsoft. I am sure they will understanding and reactiviate the key to be reused again on a new PC. Like I said the only ones who have to worry about it is usually people who build custom PCs like myself. When I want to build a new one I will just have to buy an actual copy of Windows 10 only once. Only reason for this is because I got my first copy for free by upgrading via Windows Update I didn't recieve a Windows 10 key or disc so I am pretty much stuck with buying a actual copy for my next build.

I got my key free for being a Windows Insider and had to make my own disk.

I think the appearance of Window 10 is fantastic but right after I enjoy the first sight of it, it turns into blue screen 🙁

That doesn't sound good. 🙁 Have you sorted it out?

What is the error listed on the blue screen?

Im having problems with my computer not coming out of sleep mode, Its rather annoying because everytime it goes into sleep mood I have to restart my computer :/

I'm wanting to upgrade to Windows 10, however I'm waiting for Microsoft to fix the reboot issues and I need to buy a big enough flash drive to back up my computer on. :V I'm not going to risk losing all my important files and games on my computer. 😛

My husband can no longer use his One Note app on his Surface Pro 3. He says that his stylus is not being recognized correctly.

I had a little tour of this whilst on my brother's computer, and I love it! The return of the start menu is great. The general layout/user interface is user friendly and has really improved. Seems like the updates have made this version stable, as it was kinda buggy when it was first released.

i am using it. Edge is really better IE. I think Win 10 is ok, I can use it. 😉

I didn't run into any glitches so far with Windows 10 on my desktop and laptop. It works well for me!!

The new build 10547 is bad, buggy as hell. Opt out for now for Technical Previews.

I upgraded to Windows 10 the day it was released to the public and I've had zero problems with it. I don't play games on this laptop, though, and I only really use Chrome, Word, Skype and Spotify lol.
