Recently the staff here at FP have been having a discussion on what should be allowed and what shouldn't, we are referring mainly to gaming sites that discuss illegal activity with things like modification, jailbreaking, R4 cards, cheats and hacks and the use of botting for the likes of Runescape.

We would like to hear what you think, while sometimes these types of discussions break the Terms of Service of the respective forum providers and certain aspects of Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo we want to know if you think they should be allowed or not but we want your reasons behind your thinking, not just a yes or no please.

For those of you that don't know too much about the subject...

Modding - This can be flash/soft modding of the Xbox, PS3, PSP & Wii to enable the playing of copied games. We realize some modding is actually encouraged by the game maker's, but, that's another discussion)
Jail Breaking - this usually entails the breaking of iphones and HTC to allow free internet and apps
R4/Wood - These terms are used when related to the NDS, to allow the use of illegally downloaded games.
Cheat's/Hacks - Certain ones used to gain illegal amounts of Microsoft Points or to modify games that are NOT a part of the built in games experience.

I'll wait for Bad Bieber to advise you of what Botting is on Runescape 😉

____

Botting - Use of a third party software that plays the game for you, allowing you to stay logged in to Runescape, even when not at the computer. Real pain to the legit players of the game, and strictly forbidden by Jagex.

I say no because we don't want promote illegal activity's.
Eventually it will end up badly.

Wouldn't it be very time consuming trying to find each gaming site/forum discusses illegal activity with all of those things?

No, but it would be extra work for the Community Team.

Believe it or not we do already check gaming sites for illegal activity 😉

Oh, wow you guys are really busy! I'd say keep it that way, then. 🙂

Botting on Runescape is scripts from sites that update to the ever changing Runescape. They are so advanced now days. They dont even move your mouse now days and people can just click a few buttons and let the scripts play for you. Some sites even sell their scripts. These scripts can play hours on end without you doing a thing. Making millions of gold and items in matter of a years worth of human play.

RS Botting is widely known and I am a part of a clan that is trying to stop them. Known as BAM. Botting Awareness Movement.

I wouldn't allow those that blatantly have illegal material (i.e. gaming warez sites, hacking online games). Things like jailbreaking while against the TOS of a company are not necessarily illegal. In the end it's more important what hawkhostt themselves think of this if these sites were to be allowed to advertise here.

To bar these sites from posting advertisements on forum promotion would not only do little to prevent them from carrying out illegal activity, but it would cause a significant loss in the community of forum promotion. Modification, jailbreaking, R4 cards, cheats, hacks, and the use of bots are not always illegal. Much of the time they're perceived as illegal because of aggressive campaigns by the manufacturers to demonize their use. Not many Governments care about people leveling their paladins or getting extra gold in Runescape. The companies however, don't like it for obvious reasons (money). Its harmless to everyone. Jailbreaking was actually made legal by the US Government if I recall correctly on the grounds that the consumer paid for the product and can therefore do with it what they will. Cheats and Hacks shouldn't even be on the list. They're so mundane to the gaming community its not even funny.<br /><br />-- 07 Jun 2011, 18:11 --<br /><br />http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/us-gov ... d=11254253

Well I just want to put this out there that Jailbreaking of iPhone's and any "Apple made" device has been made legal and is a law that it is legal. 🙂

Jail breaking phones is now legal in the United States. I think that we should allowed. As far as it goes for allowing botting or hacks or cheats, I do not think we should allow that.

I completely say no to allowing any illegal stuff. Cheat codes are fine though.

Yeah cheat codes for games such as XupDnekwook for games is perfectly fine but hacking and money hacking for Runescape is just lame and should not be allowed.

Why not the cheats and hacks though? I think the question you're actually posing is: Should Forum Promotion enforce the terms of service of the products that the forums that advertise on our website discuss?

Money Hacking? That's new, I didn't know people hacked the system to get money. That should definitely not be allowed

Isn't that just editing the visible value on your end? Didn't watch the video but I remember those from when I used to play RS years ago.

Yeah "game" money hacking for Runescape and such. This is what I mean: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oOhBFSDta8

Valueless in game currency? Whats the problem?
How else will kidnappers in China use their slaves?

Most of those god generators shouldn't be advertised because they're just malware, not because they hack any game.
