phpBB3 information

I still have a 3.0.4 and a 3.0.5 and have not really noticed many changes, but then again, it was a stable release, not a feature release like 3.0.6 will be.
 
Mainly all the changes were bug fixes.... There are a few new search settings and CAPTCHA settings but other then that, there is nothing that noticeable. It is good to keep up to date though.

3.0.6 will be a really good release. I think it will be about 4-5 months though atleast until we see it.
 
Fowler, won't that release have quick reply included default? That is already installed here so won't make that much of a difference.
 
Yeah it will have... It will be a very basic quick reply though. We can continue and probably will continue to use this one as it has Smilies and so on.
 
Yeah, but when 3.0.6 almost every forum mod will have to be redone with different directories and removing new features. For e.g. to have the evil or advanced quick reply you will have to delete simple quick reply. All the directories are supposedly changing too.
 
To my knowledge there isn't going to be any massive problems for mods. There will probably be problems for any anti-spam mods. I don't think they are going to be changing the directories or anything like that which will causes wide spread problems. That would cause way too many problems for a release of this nature.

Changes like that are more likely to take place in 3.2 or 3.4 not versions like 3.0.6. Also i did read somewhere that current quick reply mods will still work without any trouble.
 
I have two forums on phpBB3 and one on Zetaboards (I'm not sure of the software or if software even the correct term, so bear with me. =P) and I've concluded that I'm partial to phpBB3. The ACP is easy to use and everything is pretty straight foward. Whereas, Zetaboards is kinda complicated. You have to create your whole theme 'cause the default themes suck. The ACP is more of a jumble to me than phpBB3. Just wanted to post my opinion.
 
Zetaboards is a custom made forum software they made themselves. Zetaboards is quite restrictive (as with all free hosts) and their acp and the general look of zetaboard forums is terrible.
 
Question: How do I change use posts and view the IP's a user has posted on it phpbb3? I still haven't learned how to do that.
 
If you click the "Info" button on a post, you can see the users IP they used to post the post and change the poster of that post and loads of other stuff.
 
Thanks. I hope they consider improving accessiblity in the future for this. Though It's still a very good feature. 🙂
 
I use phpBB2 on my forum and I can do nearly everything that's on that list on my forum .
 
That is because you are using a very modified version of phpBB2. phpBB2 is no longer supported so if a security problem gets found in phpBB2 then you will be a bit stuck.
 
there a lot of security risk in phpBB2, since it's not supported, it hasn't been updated with php, html so it can easily be hacked

Not always the case, You don't need php errors/html to hack a website, Also any website can get hacked no matter what there is always a way to hack something. But being outdated doesn't help either.

No, you don't, but phpBB2 has many errors in it. many holes.
 
So what, i remember when i was helping PG out, we had the latest version of VB and it got hacked. Doesn't matter what software/secruity/version you have, anything can be hacked as Raymond said.
 
yes. I never said that was untrue. I'm just saying there is more possibility of phpBB2 or older forum software of getting hacked.

I know everything can be hacked. because the latest copy of WHMCS I have on my VDS got hacked as long as most of my stuff. and my clients account got riddles with mshell.php files.
 
Anyone got any ideas at all as to when 3.0.6 is out?

I've got a few style improvements / fixes I want to make for my styles, but initially wanted to wait until 3.0.6 was out and do all of the updates then.

If it's still over a month away, might as well make them now :shrug:
