They haven't released a proper RC version for people to try out which they do prior to all releases. There might even be 2 RC's if there are some problems with the first one which is possible as there is alot of changes.
Are mods such as quick reply and ones that require you to edit themes easy to add?
I mean, for ZB all we have to do for those are copy and paste. Are the mod installs that simple or no..?
Most mods are as simple as uploading a few files and editing some files. Sometimes you have to upload a file and then point your browser to that files to make db alterations though.
Thoroughly disappointed with the quick reply, not only is it inconvenient to add (admins must firstly change a setting in post settings, but then it has to be enabled in each individual forum's settings after that), but it also isn't that quick - in that you still have to click the "quick reply" button to actually see the text box. Its not actually that practical either, just a subject line and large text box. No similes or BBCode buttons (mind you, I'm not one to talk about advanced quick replies).
Hmm let's have a gander at some of the other new features. Report PM button, seems to work fine. Not sure why the sender needs to see the report PM button once they've sent a message and its sat in their outbox though - anyone fancy reporting their own PM before its sent?
New CAPTCHA - impressive, glad to see they've finally added re-captcha compatability. Will take a further look tomorrow. Just ran the automatic update package by our demo forum (identical setup to here), returned 32 modified files and 27 conflicts. Ouch.
And once again the style validators on phpBB fail - my style has been in the queue for nearly 2 months now, even if it is validated (and I doubt it, they don't seem to like me!) it'll be for 3.0.5 when 3.0.6 is released.
The exact same thing happened with my sliced style - I submitted it on Wed Dec 24, 2008 2:50 am, around the time phpBB 3.0.4 was released.
It was not validated until Mon May 25, 2009 4:14 am, some 5+ MONTHS later...
and on May 31st, phpBB 3.0.5 came out making the style outdated in less than a week.
With MyBB my styles are usually approved/denied within a day or two
