phpBB3 information

HTML isn't in use as it can destory your forum with the right code but for some HTML codes where the is no BBCode you can add a tag for it.

Were running phpbb 3 at paragama and were loving it! I love that it allows you to add your own bbcodes more than anything 😀 I have an mp3 mod that everyone in my forum loves..It was ment to be used for smf, but I fixed that, so if anyone wants to use it pm me.

I do wish that the permissions were a bit easier, but after an hour, I understood it.

Oh, and I highly recommend reporting any bugs found to phpBB, the sooner they get reported, the sooner the gold release is out.

I'm gonna stick to phpBB2 for a while. I am rather disappointed HTML is useless in phpBB3, however.

The permissions still confuse me. Sometimes i work it out and understand it then i totally get lost next time i edit them. As f199 said html is not allowed on phpBB3 for security reasons which is good in a way although if you have loads of codes in your forum descriptions then you have alot of work to do to change them to bbcodes or move it to other places if you have an affiliate scroller you could add it to your templates or something although i wouldn't stick with phpBB2 just because it allows html. Overall phpBB3 is much better and that cancels out the fact html is not allowed i think and i don't think you need html that badly.

No, phpBB3 will never support html. Probably not phpBB4 either. It is much safer to use bbcodes and you can add your own bbcodes to do anything.

Yep you can put smilies, bbcodes and links in forum descriptions. I have used bbcodes to underline and bold words in the descriptions here...

Yes, and phpBB is a more known and used message board system. I think I could trust it more in security because if you go looking through the phpBB coding, alot of it is for security issues. I have never found a bug in the final version of phpBB2, and I hope it is the same with the final version of phpBB3 and by the way phpBB is going, I would say it is probably going to happen! 😀

Actually Fowler, I'm staying with phpBB2 for three reasons. (Excluding HTML)

1. Better MODs
2. Better skins
3. Easier to use

Although, I do have a phpBB3 test forum setup on a subdomain from Wild World Crossing. I test for bugs there. 😱 🙂

I may be taking The Nintendo Gamers back to phpBB3 and if not, I will be switching to vBulletin. Although, sadly vBulletin costs money. And since it will be a planned transfer, the posts will not disappear.

1) phpBB3 is new and phpBB2 has been around for years but phpBB3 will get loads more mods as soon as it goes gold as that is when most people and most hosting companies will transfer.
2) Alot of phpBB2 skins will be made to be compatible with phpBB3. Over time there will be plenty of new ones.
3) It probably is harder to use compared what you are used to. Now i find it actually easier then phpBB2 apart form the permissions. You have probably used phpBB2 for months or years so that is why phpBB3 seems harder as you haven't used it for long compared to phpBB2.

Phpbb3 is safer the phpBB2 and anyway you will have to upgrade sooner rather the later as support will be stopped.
