phpBB3 information

It depends what version of phpBB3 you are comparing against phpBB3 RC4. It is mostly bug fixes but there is a few new small features as you go from the betas to RC4.

You still have to wait for phpBB3.2.0 first (i think) which is already feature frozen so must be in development or now about to be in development.

These are the main ones... There are more like server side topic marking so if you log off and come back topics that were marked unread before you log off are still marked as unread where as with phpBB2 if you log of and visit again all posts would be marked as read whether you read them or not.

I just had a look to the permissions in phpbb3 ...and now I have a headache.
Looks complicated, probably the feature to test permissions will save the day...

You get used to them after a while.

Just to let any members know (maybe want to make this sticky, or move to more popular forum) that there are some very big problems when upgrading to the latest PHPBB3 - RC7.

RC6 was found to have large holes and errors and had to be edited right away

Anyway, there are a LOT of template changes, as they've changed how forms are passed in the script, as such, if you do NOT have a default (prosilver/subsilver2) template, you will experience problems and need to update

Just a message of warning, might want to check out phpBB forums before updating for advice

The upgrade is actually that bad aslong as you remember to change the default template to either prosilver or subsilver before the update then you can upload the new templates and install them again.

Hmmmm, PHPBB3 Looks Good. I Cant Wait For FF To Release It, I Know We Have A Choice Anyway, Which Is Good.

All Looks A Bit Complicated (The Coding Parts), All The Rest Looks Pretty Easy Though. Some Of The New Features Are Fantastic!

I Can See It Now, When FF Release It On Their Forums. Everyone Will Be Like WE HAVE PHPBB3!!!

Lol.. Looks Good, Thanks For The Info Fowler. I Had A Little Go On The Test Forum.. Although I Made One Before That Just To Test PHPBB3

Anyway, i Dont Think FF Will Be Releasing It Anytime Soon Even If It Is Stable And Ready For Use. As They Have All Those Server Problems, And Ppl Upgrading Their Forums From PHPBB2 To PHPBB3 Would Just Put More Questions And Stress On The Support Team At FF When There Doing All That Server Work.

Ah Well, I Cant Wait! Who Knows, Maybe FF Users Will Have A Nice Christmas Prezzie!

Yeah don't expect ff to released it when it goes stable... The will have to set the update system up and ensure that it works properly and the update process can be a bit resource intensive so the servers would need to be working properly...

i'd imagine they've already done this with the BETA version to allow an immediate launch when the stable version is released.

I wouldn't bet on it...

Anyway only because they upgrade from phpBB2 to RC whatever works it doesn't mean that it will work properly for the gold update so they will have to do some testing to make sure that it works properly with their system as no doubt that won't be exactly like an upgrade for you and me.

I can see why FF haven't ran with phpBB3.

It is far greater than phpBB2, but I am still clunking around finding stuff out (good job have good friends to help).

In ACP the only thing I not that good with is the permissions tab at the top.

The permissions in phpbb3 can be hard to come to terms with, although the tab isn't pointless, there are additional options down the left hand side of that page which aren';t accessible from anywhere else.
