To Win8 or not to Win8

I read online that if you use a touchpad/trackpad on a laptop, using Windows 8 in the modern touchscreen could be easier.

I'm using Windows 8 on a desktop with a keyboard, and mouse, and I haven't have much difficulty using it in both Modern and Desktop mode.

Learning keyboard shortcuts like ALT-F4, ALT-TAB, Windows Tab, Windows-D, Windows-F, Windows-X, The Arrow keys in the Modern Start screen, etc make using Windows 8 is faster because keyboard shortcuts are faster.

Indeed, there is still a Desktop mode with Windows Explorer File Manager which is easier to use, and faster according to http://helmersblog.nl/2011/09/windows-8 ... file-copy/ and my own experience when copying and pasting files. Plus, you can easily pause, stop, and resume copy and paste from the copy window by clicking the pause, resume, and stop button on the window.

I also notice Windows Explorer in 8 to be more stable, and crash less then Windows 7 on my old computer.

I love how the internet makes Windows 8 looks like the devil...and for all of you saying that it's another "Vista" or another "WinME". You are wrong....very wrong....first of all to say it's anything like Vista is a complete insult, Vista was a complete resource hog, Vista had almost no driver support until after 7 came out.

If you ask me the transition between 7 and 8 is almost seamless, I understand it may not be for everyone but seriously...it's not a horrible O.S. and honestly I don't see Microsoft going away from it, touch is the way of the future if you ask me.

I can personally say that I just bought a brand new laptop a day ago that came with Windows 8 preinstalled, not a bad price either; only $600, and I am used to Windows 7. So it wasn't such a large transition.

No offense to fans, Windows 8 is too complicated it's stupid, Microsoft could release a white screen as an operating system and could have loads of buyers, seems so overrated and it's definitely not worth the money. I recommend sticking to Windows 7, but most people probably already know to not use Windows 8. 😉

There is seriously nothing wrong with Windows 8....it's not complicated to use unless you are unable to learn a new start menu....every operating system Microsoft has came out with has been hated on by people everywhere....good thing Microsoft doesn't try to please everyone or we probably would have a white screen....>.>

Thank you someone isn't complaining! :lol: It's really not a bad transition what so ever it's quite easy to go from 7 to 8 it's not like you are stuck using the damn start menu. Just because you start off on the "start" page doesn't mean you can use the desktop... :roll:

I found 3rd party software which hide the Windows 8 Modern Start Screen interface during startup, and adds a startmenu button to Windows 8's desktop Taskbar, so you can use Windows 8 like Windows 7.

But, the StartScreen modern user interface is not very hard to learn after a day or so of using it, and using short cut keys like Windows Key+Q , Windows Key+F, Windows Key+X and Windows Key-X.

I installed Windows 8 on my computer and i hated it from the start, so complicated to used with dual screen and just so confusing.
I had a Chrome page loaded from the desktop Chrome app. I then went and did something else an i was on the Start Screen, so i thought i would just load the Chrome app back up. Did it and my page wasn't there. I ten went back t the desktop and the chrome was in my task-bar with my page on it. I did some testing and realized the desktop app runs separate from the start screen app.
Sorry but i could not work with it. I think i would work on on a tablet but not for a computer.

If you have Chrome set up as your default browser it shouldn't matter where you open it at it should open up as an App no in a window form on the desktop.

You are wrong about it not working on a computer, it works just fine on a computer, I use it on a regular basis. You hae to get used to it, it's a new feel and I don't see Microsoft steering away from this. They are already speaking of releasing a large update for Windows 8 next year called Windows 8 Blue, but who know's what will come with that, maybe they will provide an option to switch back to the normal start menu.

I know i have to get use to it but there was nothing wrong wt the traditional start menu. They tried to design if too much for tablets and not tradition computers. I will be sticking with Windows 7 for the next few years.

Why not just use a third party software like http://www.stardock.com/products/start8/ or http://classicshell.sourceforge.net/ which hides and disables the New Start Screen user interface, add a start menu button to the regular desktop in 8 to make Windows 8 feel and look like Windows 7?

Uninstalling Windows 8 to reinstall Windows 7 seems like a lot of work since you most likely have a lot of software, drivers, settings, and files which you need to backup and copy to the new drive, and reinstall back on to Windows 7 which can take hours to days to transfer over to 7 vs. just using a third party user interface program like Start8 or Classic Shell which only take a few minutes to install and use.

Plus, there might be cool apps, and software which are only available on Windows 8 Marketplace apps store, and not available on Windows 7 and non-8 versions, so not having 8 will limit the amount of compatible software you can use on your PC.

I went back to Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. Iv got SSD and £1,500 worth of computer that reformats windows and installs all the drivers in 11,46 seconds flat. so its not a problem for me.

Each to their own opinion though.

I just bought a new laptop and uninstalled Windows 8 and installed my copy of Windows 7. For me, Windows 8 was not for me.
