phpBB3 information

phpBB 3.2 will require all (well, nearly all) mods to be rewritten as it, as they've removed $phpbb_root_path and $phpbb_ext.

Awsome!

I have a question. When one installs mods on a phpBB3 forum for a specific version (like 3.0.4), do they become non functioning pieces of junk wen/if they move on?

If you mean like when phpBB 3.0.5 gets released then most of the times they carry on working fine... Sometimes minor updates cause a problem for one of 2 mods but mostly they work fine. Major updates like when phpBB3.2 comes out then all mods will not work and will be lost.

'Lost' might not be the perfect word. Because phpBB is open source, and powered by a huge community, it won't be long before someone 'ports' a version to work for awhile. So really, it's more of a 'temporally unavailable' thing ~wink~

Even so in alot of cases things will be lost such as the cash of users on this forum. There are loads of cash mods at the moment for phpBB3 and i highly doubt there will be a upgrade for every one that keeps the users cash. If you look at the mod for phpBB3 quite a few are based on phpBB2 but alot don't keep the data of the previous mod. I can only think of a gallery mod that you can convert from the phpBB2 version too.

You might be able to get a similar mod but not with the data from the previous version.

I heard that when phpbb 3.1.0 comes out, a lot of mods will no longer work, and because of 3.1.0 coming out, I doubt there will be a 3.0.5

There will be 3.0.5 as this will be a maintenance release. It will be about a year min. until phpBB3.2 gets released so obviously there will be releases before then fixing bugs. Only because there is a new big release in the development doesn't mean they will ignore bugs in the current version for a year otherwise they will never be any bug fix versions for any software. Even when phpBB3.2 does come out they will still release updates for 3.0 for a short while. After phpBB3.0 was released they released 2.0.23 didn't they?

phpBB3.0.5 will be coming out and it will be soon.

When phpBB4 comes out sombody will say when does phpBB5 come out.It always happens.

I'm just going to wait to start working with a current copy of phpBB for My Web Adverts... I'll use a copy once that version comes out ~lol~

Doesn't matter much, I have to wait for this house to sell anyways ~wink~

Worse case I just only do style edits and that sort of thing, then once it gets release install it new and just transfer everything.

I think there was 1 minor security fix although it was not really important.

Well, Atm I'm using a theme made for phpbb 3.0.2, Where will I be able to find the code changes fir prosilver style?

Styles for one version (like phpBB 3.0.2) do work on the latest release (phpBB 3.0.5) aslong as there weren't made for the RC versions as during them, there was a release that broke the styles.

You can view the changes here - http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... 4&t=880735 It is always better to keep the styles up to date but it isn't a must do.
