phpBB3 information

I can't wait to get phpBB 3.0 on my forum -D- . I have freeforums and they just said "We are making some necessary security upgrades before releasing the BETA to the public. Once this is finished, we can resume testing and feature development."

I'm guessing end of March at the latest. I can't wait since most of the skins for 2.0 that Freeforums has installed are horrible, not much choice.

To be honest the phpBB3 skins are worse. That is why we stuck to AcidTech as most of the phpBB3 skins are based on phpBB2 skins so there aren't many completely new ones.

Our skin Avalon seems to be a skin based on this theme as it seems similar in the layout.

All templates are based on either sub or prosilver. Acidtech and Avalon are both subsilver based so they look similar.

I dunno.. I was following the skins development when phpBB3 was still in RC status. The Vista style skin was much better and there were a few Mac OS X skins that I really liked. Since it seems that there can be better graphics to be had with 3.0 and it's a shame to hear that people aren't really pushing it to take advantage of the new power.

I saw that Mac skin for phpBB3. I really liked it, but it's not updated to phpBB3 Gold.
I believe it was called Apple. Look on phpbb3styles.net

Hmmm, I'd love to see that style. Just checked on phpBB3 Styles (.net) and it's not on there under the name "Apple".

🙁

I found phpBB3 to be the saviour for me.

As I try to design my site, and the forum under the same idea, I am able to do so much more in phpBB3, which used to take me forever to code in phpBB2, like updating static menus and Static content is a lot easier. It's called the APANEL.

I'll show you what I mean in a bit.

No - not necessarily, it all depends on which MOD(s) you are trying to install.

And which programmes you have.
And if you have a .htaccess file to stop people reading config.php

phpbb3 is great, it has been completely recoded, hense why it took so long for it to be released, the only think i dont like about phpbb3 is the permission system, in phpbb2 it was much simplier.

and because i converted from Vb to phpbb2, and frpom phpbb2 to phpbb3 i have now got to set all the permissions up again, luckily my forum is offline, but its just going to take a while to do, otherwise phpbb3 is much better piece of software, when 3.2 comes out it will be more like VB, adding mods will be very easy, you just upload the xml file and then just do the template edits

I finally figured out the permissions system (the yes, no, and never thing) and I like it that way. It's a nice feature, and its an awesome way to prevent users from doing things.

And, I'll be excited just to be able to upload a file and have a MOD installed. That'll be great! 😀
